Description For Software Development Engineer, E-reader products

Amazon's E-reader device team is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join their innovative group responsible for building highly efficient operating systems for E-readers. This team owns new device launches, linux tech stack (C/C++), and the low-level components that make devices energy efficient with weeks of battery life. They recently launched Kindle Scribe, a larger form factor device that enables both reading and note-taking.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will:

  • Own adding capabilities as new features are unlocked on the Kindle E-reader family
  • Design and develop critical components in the operating system and low-level components
  • Write applications on top of the unique Kindle Operating system
  • Collaborate with experienced Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative components to E-readers
  • Architect and design secure software that protects customer data stored on devices
  • Identify ways to keep the software stack up-to-date, considering advancements in both hardware and software
  • Guide junior team members as a lead engineer

You'll work with multiple technical teams across Amazon, tackling challenging and novel situations daily. This role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on millions of people while learning and having fun.

The ideal candidate should be proficient in C/C++ to understand the internals of the E-reader operating system. Knowledge of React Native is a bonus for writing applications. You'll be actively engaged in developing applications based on C/C++ and React Native, and will interact with many Amazonians as they deploy their software on E-readers.
