Description For Software Development Engineer, SIDR Overwatch

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join their AWS Networking organization, specifically working on the team responsible for designing and developing software and services for their global optical network. This role sits within AWS Infrastructure Services, the foundation that keeps the cloud running worldwide.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale infrastructure automation, collaborating with a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers. You'll be developing services that configure and automate operations for AWS's global optical network, working at a scale that few companies can match.

As an SDE in this team, you'll be expected to operate autonomously and deliver projects that have team or cross-team impact. You'll be involved in designing new features, writing optimized code, reviewing peers' work, and providing technical leadership. The role includes on-call responsibilities (one week every 4-5 weeks during working hours) to ensure system reliability.

  • Design and develop software and services for AWS global optical network configuration and automation
  • Drive designs for components and services that deliver new features and capabilities
  • Prepare estimates for upcoming deliverables
  • Document proposed solutions
  • Review code of other team members
  • Write well structured and optimized code
  • Perform root cause analysis on operational events
  • Participate in on-call rotation (one week every 4-5 weeks during working hours)

Requirements For Software Development Engineer, SIDR Overwatch

  • Experience with full software development life cycle
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • Experience designing or architecting new and existing systems
  • Experience building complex software systems delivered to customers
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred)
