Description For Software Development Engineer, Smart Home

The Alexa Smart Home Cameras team at Amazon is seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer to join their innovative team. This role combines both individual contribution and technical leadership, focusing on developing technology across Computer Vision, media streaming, and real-time communication for Alexa-enabled devices. The team enables Alexa's visual capabilities in customers' homes through features like camera viewing and event detection.

As a key member of the team, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing the technical strategy for Cameras product initiatives, working with both internal teams and external partners like Ring, Arlo, Nest, and Wyze. You'll be building high-performance applications for Amazon devices including Echo and FireTV, while ensuring reliable and scalable solutions.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of IoT, smart home technology, and artificial intelligence, while leading and mentoring a team of engineers. You'll be directly impacting how millions of customers interact with their smart home devices through Alexa, making their lives simpler and more convenient.

Responsibilities For Software Development Engineer, Smart Home

  • Help develop technical roadmap, strategy, customer experience and roadmap for Cameras product initiatives
  • Create buy-in for the technical vision and strategy both internally and with key external partners
  • Design and build reliable, high-performance applications for Amazon devices (Echo, FireTV)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Mentor and lead engineers to create a high performing team
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior team members

Requirements For Software Development Engineer, Smart Home

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
  • Experience in full software development life cycle preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent preferred
  • Experience working in full stack software applications preferred
