Amazon's Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging (MSP) team is seeking a Senior Controls Systems Engineer to revolutionize their packaging platforms. This role combines advanced motion control systems expertise with innovative automation solutions to enhance Amazon's fulfillment network. You'll be at the forefront of developing next-generation robotic and automation technology, working with cutting-edge industrial automation design and Amazon Web Services.

The position involves designing and implementing complex control systems that integrate HMI, PLC, Motion Control, and various subsystems critical to packaging operations. You'll work in a dynamic environment where you'll balance customer experience, operational excellence, and sustainability goals. The role requires deep technical expertise in motion control platforms and programming, while collaborating with cross-functional teams including Electrical, Mechanical, and Manufacturing engineers.

As part of MSP, you'll contribute to developing highly automated Pack and Sort Technology that improves productivity and safety in Amazon's processes. The team's mission includes transitioning from single-use plastics to sustainable, paper-based materials, making a significant impact on Amazon's environmental footprint. This role offers the opportunity to work on projects that scale across Amazon's global fulfillment network, implementing solutions that directly impact customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities For Sr. Controls Systems Engineer, Mechatronics

  • Design systems architecture including HMI, PLC, Motion, safety, and ancillary systems
  • Execute programming of subsystems (HMI, PLC, Motion, Safety and ancillary systems)
  • Ensure project documentation is complete and scalable
  • Support safety certification of projects (CE, UL, CSA, TUV)
  • Develop and deploy automated solutions across Amazon Fulfillment Network
  • Execute platform specific control systems design and integration
  • Perform root cause analysis of automation systems
  • Work with cross-functional teams on technical projects

Requirements For Sr. Controls Systems Engineer, Mechatronics

  • Bachelor's Degree in Automation, Controls, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years experience in advanced motion control platforms integration design and programming
  • 5+ years experience with motion control software (Rockwell, Rexroth, Beckhoff, B&R, Siemens)
  • Experience leading design, build and deployment of complex software solutions
  • 5+ years of designing/architecting large scale systems
  • Experience with CI/CD development methodology
  • Experience programming with Python, Java, C++, C#, or Rust
