Description For Sr Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer, Project Kuiper

Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites aimed at providing high-speed broadband connectivity to underserved communities worldwide. As a Sr Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in the production and development of satellite assemblies during the critical early production ramp phase.

The position offers a unique blend of hands-on engineering work and strategic leadership. Your time will be divided between shop floor operations (30%), independent development work (30%), collaborative meetings (30%), and team mentorship (10%). You'll be the leading technical voice for a team of manufacturing engineers, solving complex challenges in spacecraft production.

The role combines mechanical engineering expertise with spacecraft manufacturing, requiring strong skills in production process development, testing, and quality control. You'll work in a fast-paced, data-driven environment alongside leaders in multiple technology areas, focusing on delivering the best product while maintaining rigorous quality standards.

Responsibilities For Sr Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer, Project Kuiper

  • Production equipment design, procurement, installation, and qualification
  • Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition
  • Support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis
  • Implement DFM and DFT principles to optimize production processes
  • Design test cases for functional, performance, and stress testing
  • Process and analyze test results using scripting tools
  • Identify and resolve assembly issues
  • Collaborate with design, tooling, dynamics, thermal, test and electrical engineering teams
  • Mentor and develop team members

Requirements For Sr Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer, Project Kuiper

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, material science or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in design and manufacturing of complex assemblies
  • 3+ years experience authoring and executing mechanical and test work instructions
  • 5+ years Experience reducing cycle time and improving labor efficiency
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee due to export control laws
