Amazon's Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering (RME) team is seeking a Senior System Development Engineer to join their corporate-based engineering team in Automation Engineering. This role combines software development expertise with industrial automation knowledge, focusing on material handling equipment (MHE) systems and distribution processes. The position requires a unique blend of technical leadership and hands-on experience with control systems, workplace safety, and data-driven management.
The role involves working with cutting-edge automation technologies, including PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks, and various control systems. You'll be responsible for driving maintenance best practices, managing complex projects, and working across multiple teams including Operations, Engineering, and Safety. The position requires strong analytical skills for system optimization and problem-solving, as well as the ability to influence and develop relationships at all organizational levels.
As a Sr System Dev Engineer, you'll be instrumental in improving Amazon's fulfillment center operations through technology innovation and process improvement. You'll work with diverse teams across North America, contributing to system performance optimization, incident analysis, and technical implementation of new technologies. Responsibilities For Sr System Dev Engineer III, North American Customer Fulfillment (NACF) Reliability, Maintenance, Engineering (RME)
- Drive maintenance Best Practices including innovation, documentation, and process improvement
- Offer guidance to senior leadership on maintenance and equipment end of life issues
- Coordinate and plan work activities for Control Systems Engineers
- Work with various teams to support MHE systems optimization and project implementation
- Monitor MHE metrics and analyze system performance issues
- Facilitate Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes
- Partner with building Operations leadership and vendors for new technology installations
- Provide technical consultation for capital projects
- Travel up to 40%
Requirements For Sr System Dev Engineer III, North American Customer Fulfillment (NACF) Reliability, Maintenance, Engineering (RME)
- Experience leading design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure
- Experience programming with modern languages (Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust)
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- Knowledge of engineering practices for full software/hardware/networks development life cycle
- Experience with distributed systems at scale preferred
- 6+ years of systems design, software development, and operations experience preferred
