Description For Systems Development Engineer, Kuiper Enterprise Technology

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. As a Systems Development Engineer on the Kuiper Production Operations team, you will be responsible for building tools and services with infrastructure-as-code, enabling self-healing, site reliability, and scaling. You'll use AWS products and DevOps patterns to build the next generation of remote systems management tools.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and optimizing VDI solutions, particularly Windows 365 environments
  • Engineering and maintaining client systems for optimal performance
  • Building and maintaining imaging, patching, and configuration management processes
  • Implementing remote and automated imaging solutions for global sites
  • Collaborating with teams across Kuiper, including Security, Identity Access Management, Networking, and IT Services
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting
  • Leveraging scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to automate manual processes

This role requires a U.S. citizen due to the need to access certain federal controlled information. You'll be expected to influence the business and technology direction of the team and apply standards for engineering, test, and operational excellence.

Requirements For Systems Development Engineer, Kuiper Enterprise Technology

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 1+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems experience
  • 3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
  • Experience in cloud-based VDI deployments (Azure, AWS)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to export control requirements
