Project Kuiper is Amazon's ambitious initiative to launch a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) to provide fast, affordable broadband access to unserved and underserved communities worldwide. As a Thermal Design Engineer on the Kuiper team, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the thermal integrity of these revolutionary satellites. The position combines spacecraft design expertise with thermal analysis capabilities, working within Kuiper's Thermal Team that's responsible for thermal design solutions for all components in Kuiper's satellites and customer terminals.
You'll collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, power, electrical, and network teams, to optimize designs that maximize performance while minimizing mass, cost, and manufacturing complexity. Your work will directly impact the reliability and longevity of satellite operations, following hardware components from conceptual design through launch and flight.
The role offers unique challenges in spacecraft thermal management, requiring expertise in thermal analysis, simulation, and testing. You'll conduct everything from preliminary analysis for orbital conditions to detailed component-level thermal modeling, develop automated scripts for rapid analysis updates, and execute critical thermal vacuum testing. This position provides an opportunity to work on cutting-edge space technology while contributing to a mission that aims to bridge the global digital divide.
The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $86,900 to $185,000 based on location and experience, plus comprehensive benefits including medical coverage and equity compensation. This role requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to export control regulations.
