The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is seeking a technical GIS developer to join their Enterprise GIS Team within the Office of IT Applications. The role focuses on configuring and developing custom Esri ArcGIS Enterprise applications integrated with SharePoint, .NET applications, and enterprise databases. The team consists of 2 ArcGIS developers, 2 System Administrators, a data manager, and team leader, supporting over 180 ArcGIS Desktop users and approximately 60,000 annual ArcGIS Server web visits.
The position involves designing, coding, testing, and maintaining GIS applications that support various functions including portal management, feature mapping, project planning, emergency operations, permitting, safety, and traffic records. The ideal candidate will work under broad supervision, translating business requirements into secure, maintainable code while following internal SDLC standards and best practices.
Working in a hybrid environment, the role offers the flexibility of both remote and in-office work, though local candidates are preferred. The position is initially contracted through the fiscal year with anticipated renewal for July 1, 2025. The team environment promotes close collaboration with IT support teams, management, architects, and business units, making it an excellent opportunity for a GIS developer looking to make an impact in public sector transportation infrastructure.
The role provides exposure to enterprise-level GIS development, working with modern technologies including Javascript API, Experience Builder, and various ArcGIS tools. You'll be part of a team that handles significant user traffic and supports critical state infrastructure systems. While the position is contract-based, many consultants have successfully extended their tenure through multiple renewals, offering potential long-term stability.
