Description For Mission Operations Engineer

Apex is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mission Operations Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the operation and management of spacecraft, ensuring the success of various space missions. This role requires a deep understanding of spacecraft systems, mission planning, and real-time problem-solving abilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Developing and executing detailed mission plans for small spacecraft operations
  2. Coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet mission objectives
  3. Monitoring spacecraft during mission operations and responding to anomalies in real-time
  4. Operating and controlling spacecraft from mission control centers
  5. Conducting pre-launch tests, simulations, and rehearsals
  6. Analyzing telemetry data to monitor spacecraft health and performance
  7. Identifying and troubleshooting spacecraft anomalies and system failures
  8. Implementing corrective actions and developing contingency plans
  9. Analyzing mission data and generating comprehensive reports
  10. Proposing and implementing process improvements

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's preferred), with a minimum of 2 years of experience in spacecraft operations or related fields. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C/C++, experience with software development tools, and knowledge of satellite operations software are required.

Responsibilities For Mission Operations Engineer

  • Analyze telemetry data to monitor spacecraft health and performance
  • Identify and troubleshoot spacecraft anomalies and system failures
  • Implement corrective actions and develop contingency plans to mitigate risks
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues
  • Analyze mission data and generate comprehensive reports on mission outcomes
  • Provide insights and recommendations for future mission improvements
  • Maintain detailed documentation of mission operations and procedures
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in spacecraft technology and operations
  • Propose and implement process improvements to enhance mission efficiency and reliability
  • Participate in post-mission debriefs and contribute to lessons learned

Requirements For Mission Operations Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in spacecraft operations, mission control, or related fields
  • Proven track record of successful mission planning and execution for small spacecraft
  • Proficiency in spacecraft operations software and tools
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft systems, including propulsion, avionics, and communication
  • Experience with telemetry data analysis and anomaly resolution
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and C/C++
  • Experience with software development tools like Git, Jenkins, and Docker
  • Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded systems
  • Knowledge of satellite operations software, such as GMAT, STK, or similar
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick, informed decisions
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as required by mission schedules
  • Must be eligible to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
