Applied Machine Learning Engineer - Localization

The Software Localization team at Apple is seeking a creative and motivated technical leader with expertise in large language models (LLMs), generative AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Machine Translation (MT). As an Applied ML Engineer in this team, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and qualifying Localization features across various Apple products.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the exploration and application of LLMs for translation tasks
• Translating cutting-edge research into practical, high-quality systems and models to improve machine translation
• Engaging in all aspects of model development, from ideation to deployment
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and implement machine learning solutions
• Developing features, frameworks, and tools to facilitate the software translation process

The ideal candidate should have:

• Strong experience in Machine Learning, particularly with LLMs and NLP
• Ability to apply research to consumer-oriented products
• Expertise in fine-tuning approaches and training models
• Experience adapting pre-trained LLMs for downstream tasks
• Proficiency in open-source ML toolkits and frameworks
• Strong programming skills in Python, C, or C++
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, AI, or Machine Learning (or equivalent experience)

Preferred qualifications include experience in software localization, familiarity with localization standards, native-level foreign language skills, and knowledge of computational linguistics.
