Description For Camera Hardware Engineer - Test Fixture & Tool Design

Apple is seeking a Camera Hardware Engineer specializing in Test Fixture & Tool Design to join their Camera Technologies group. This role involves designing and developing innovative technology for camera systems in Apple products, from sensor to lens. The engineer will support Factory test, R&D, and validation teams by designing and building reliable, high-precision fixtures and jigs for testing and data collection.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and evaluating fixtures for manufacturing camera modules and test labs
  • Identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning
  • Designing camera testing hardware and working closely with vendors
  • Leading and managing projects, reviewing supplier tool designs
  • Developing test tools and providing recommendations to improve process flow

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with relevant industry experience
  • Experience in 3D CAD design software, troubleshooting failures, GD&T principles, and tolerance analysis
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with prototyping solutions and optical production-level testing fixtures
  • Understanding of thermal management solutions and automation in high-volume production

Responsibilities For Camera Hardware Engineer - Test Fixture & Tool Design

  • Support Test engineering team with required test fixtures and validation tools
  • Help engineers and technicians with lab's test setups for data gathering during validation
  • Work closely with suppliers to design and fabricate complex camera holders
  • Perform FA on fixture related issues and work with tooling suppliers to deliver solutions
  • Improve the quality of test fixtures by providing mechanical engineering insight
