Description For Hardware Design Engineer

The Instrumentation Design Team in the Hardware Test Engineering Group at Apple has an immediate opening for a Hardware Design Engineer. This role involves designing and enabling performant test solutions to ensure the best quality of Apple products through innovation. As a key technical contributor, you will lead the design of mission-critical test instruments for next-generation products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, prototyping, building, and validating instrumentation for high volume manufacturing test throughout all NPI phases until mass production
  • Collaborating with cross-functional partners including system EE, SI, software diags, and mechanical teams
  • Proposing, negotiating, and designing EE solutions to achieve functional and performance objectives
  • Designing and schematic capture of digital and analog electrical circuits and systems
  • Leading and reviewing PCB layouts
  • Bringing up and validating instrumentation designs
  • Collaborating with deployment teams to analyze and debug issues during factory integration

Responsibilities For Hardware Design Engineer

  • Design mission-critical test instruments for next-generation Apple products
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, implement, and validate test instruments

Requirements For Hardware Design Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Solid EE fundamentals, work level knowledge and experience with common communication bus protocols (I2C, SPI, UART)
  • Knowledge of high speed circuit design
  • Working level knowledge of embedded C
  • Solid understanding in signal/power integrity concepts and best practices including transmission line theory
  • Experience with schematic capture and constraint-driven PCB layout design using Cadence tools or similar
  • Hands-on hardware bringup, functional validation, and debugging experience using common EE test equipment
