Description For Hardware Engineer - Power Analysis and Modeling

This is an exciting role for a Hardware Engineer specializing in Power Analysis and Modeling for the Apple Watch team. You will be responsible for driving battery life modeling, projections, and optimizations for various sub-systems of the Apple Watch, making a significant impact on its architectural definition and performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Generating battery life projections for the team
  • Defining, developing, and using tools and scripts for system modeling and analysis
  • Conducting power validation, testing, and characterization
  • Analyzing characterization results to drive power optimizations across the Apple Watch system
  • Specifying, negotiating, and documenting system power management and user-level behaviors
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with module and software teams
  • Building internal and external system specifications
  • Reviewing and influencing system performance decisions

You will use a combination of advanced system modeling and hands-on characterization to influence various teams across Apple, optimizing power consumption while delivering the most delightful user experience. This role requires expertise in power management modeling, energy-efficient system design, and scripting (particularly Python, with C++ as a plus). Experience with lab measurements, characterization, and debugging is essential.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with curiosity, creativity, teamwork abilities, and a passion for learning. Experience in wearable and/or mobile platforms would be advantageous.

Requirements For Hardware Engineer - Power Analysis and Modeling

Python
  • BS or MS Degree in technical discipline
  • Experience in power management modeling and energy-efficient system design
  • Scripting expertise (Python, C++ proficiency would be a plus)
  • Experience with lab measurements, characterization, debugging
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills
  • Curiosity, creativity, team-work and a passion for learning
