Apple, a global leader in consumer electronics, is seeking an Instrument Systems Design Engineer to join their Product Calibration & Test Group in Boulder, Colorado. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact products across Apple's entire portfolio, working at the intersection of hardware and software engineering.

The position involves designing, developing, and deploying calibration and test instrumentation systems for Apple's world-class products. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase, ensuring the success of current and future Apple products. The role requires a blend of hardware expertise, software development skills, and system architecture knowledge.

As an Instrument Systems Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for the complete lifecycle of instrumentation systems, from design specification to deployment in mass production. The role offers exposure to cutting-edge consumer electronics development, working with various technologies including sensors, acoustics, and complex electro-mechanical systems.

The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of professional experience, strong programming skills in C++/Python, and a deep understanding of hardware concepts and electrical engineering fundamentals. Responsibilities For Instrument Systems Design Engineer

  • Design, develop and deploy calibration and test instrumentation systems
  • Architect instrumentation systems and maintain those systems through production
  • Work with mechanical engineering team to specify and validate mechanical fixtures & automation systems
  • Develop, debug, and optimize automation software
  • Analyze large amounts of data from instrument systems
  • Perform failure mode root cause analysis and resolution
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Electrical Engineering, product design, firmware, operations)
  • Interact with contract manufacturers/vendors
  • Develop SOPs, debug instructions, and documentation

Requirements For Instrument Systems Design Engineer

Python
  • MS in Engineering or related discipline (or BS + 5 years professional experience)
  • 3+ years professional experience in design, development, debug, validation and working with electro-mechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of consumer electronics modules like transducers
  • Basic understanding of hardware concepts and EE fundamentals
  • Programming skills in C/C++/Objective-C, along with scripting knowledge (Python, Lua)
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP)
  • Experience analyzing and processing large data sets
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10%)
