Apple, a global leader in consumer electronics, is seeking an Instrument Systems Design Engineer to join their Product Integrity Group in Boulder, Colorado. This role represents a unique opportunity to impact products across Apple's entire portfolio, working at the intersection of hardware, software, and automation.

The position requires a blend of technical expertise in both hardware and software domains, focusing on the design, development, and deployment of calibration and test instrumentation systems for Apple's world-class products. You'll be working with cutting-edge technology, implementing advanced audio processing and machine learning algorithms, while collaborating with diverse teams including Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Software Engineering throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase.

The role offers a competitive base salary range of $128,300 to $237,500, complemented by comprehensive benefits including medical coverage, retirement plans, and equity opportunities through stock programs. As an Instrument Systems Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for architecting instrumentation systems, developing automation software, and analyzing large datasets to drive engineering solutions.

Responsibilities For Instrument Systems Design Engineer

  • Design specification, bring up, validation and deployment of automated instrumentation
  • Architect instrumentation systems and maintain those systems through production
  • Work with mechanical engineering team to specify and validate mechanical fixtures & automation systems
  • Develop, debug, and optimize automation software
  • Implement advanced audio processing and ML algorithms
  • Analyze large amounts of data from instrument systems
  • Perform failure mode root cause analysis and resolution
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Acoustics/N&V, EE, product design, firmware, operations)
  • Interact with contract manufacturers/vendors

Requirements For Instrument Systems Design Engineer

Python
  • MS in Engineering or related discipline (or BS + 5 years professional experience)
  • 3+ years professional experience in design, development, debug, validation and working with electro-mechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of consumer electronics modules like transducers
  • Basic understanding of hardware concepts and EE fundamentals
  • Programming skills in C/C++/Objective-C, along with scripting knowledge (Python, Lua)
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP)
  • Experience analyzing and processing large data sets
  • Domestic and international travel may be required (up to 10%)
