Description For INSTRUMENT SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER

Apple, a leading consumer electronics company, is seeking an Instrument Systems Design Engineer to join their Product Integrity Group. This role offers a unique opportunity to impact products across Apple's entire portfolio. The position involves designing, developing, and deploying calibration and test instrumentation systems for Apple's world-class products. You'll work with cross-functional teams throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase, combining hardware expertise with software development skills.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in electro-mechanical systems, programming abilities in C++/Python, and knowledge of digital signal processing. You'll be responsible for architecting instrumentation systems, implementing advanced audio processing algorithms, and analyzing large datasets to drive engineering solutions. The role requires collaboration with various teams including acoustics, electrical engineering, product design, and operations.

Responsibilities For INSTRUMENT SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER

  • Design specification, bring up, validation and deployment of automated instrumentation
  • Architect instrumentation systems and maintain those systems through production
  • Work with mechanical engineering team to specify and validate mechanical fixtures & automation systems
  • Develop, debug, and optimize automation software
  • Implement advanced audio processing and ML algorithms
  • Analyze large amounts of data from instrument systems
  • Perform failure mode root cause analysis and resolution
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Acoustics/N&V, system EE, product design, firmware, operations, and logistics
  • Interact with contract manufacturers/vendors and develop SOPs, debug instructions, and documentation

Requirements For INSTRUMENT SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER

Python
  • MS in Engineering or related discipline (or BS + 5 years professional experience)
  • 3+ years professional experience in design, development, debug, validation and working with electro-mechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of consumer electronics modules like transducers
  • Basic understanding of hardware concepts and EE fundamentals
  • Programming skills in C/C++/Objective-C, along with scripting knowledge (Python, Lua)
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP)
  • Experience analyzing and processing large data sets
  • Domestic and international travel may be required (up to 10%)
