Description For Kernel Engineering Manager

The CoreOS software team at Apple is seeking an exceptionally dedicated software engineering manager to lead kernel development for Apple products. This role involves leading a team responsible for developing new kernel features across all Apple products and evolving software for new Apple Silicon platforms. The position contributes to the success of iPhone, iPad, and Mac product lines, among others. CoreOS collaborates with various teams across the company to provide a stable, fast, and high-quality foundation for iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS frameworks and applications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing a team of dedicated kernel engineers in a fast-paced environment
  • Owning the kernel and other low-level software components
  • Creating and promoting an innovative development environment with high standards for quality and productivity
  • Identifying and mitigating risks in development activities
  • Strengthening the team by hiring and retaining diverse, top engineering talent

The role offers a competitive base pay range between $219,300 and $378,700, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission payments, and relocation assistance.

Requirements For Kernel Engineering Manager

Linux
  • Experience leading a systems software development team
  • Proven track record of successful and timely product delivery
  • History of setting bold yet attainable goals, and motivating teams to achieve them
  • Evidence of driving technical innovation
  • In-depth knowledge of and/or experience with kernel/OS internals (preferred)
  • Experience with macOS device drivers and IOKit (preferred)
  • Experience working with Linux/UNIX kernel (preferred)
