This role combines technical expertise with operational excellence, focusing on battery manufacturing processes and supplier collaboration. You'll work with Product Design, Cell Engineering, Safety, and Reliability teams to ensure high-quality battery production at scale.

The position offers an opportunity to impact Apple's revolutionary product development while working with cutting-edge battery technology. You'll be responsible for reviewing module designs, providing manufacturing feedback, and establishing robust processes with suppliers. The role requires expertise in battery chemistry, manufacturing processes, and quality control.

Responsibilities For Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - Battery

  • Review module designs and specifications and provide Design for Manufacturing feedback
  • Plan and lead Design of Experiments (DOE) activities
  • Assess fabrication strategy suitability and plan validation exercises
  • Collaborate with suppliers on process flow mapping, FMEA, and equipment designs
  • Establish manufacturing Process Control Plans
  • Drive project technical and operational issues during NPI phase
  • Assess supplier readiness and identify potential execution issues
  • Drive production process improvements, including robotics and automation

Requirements For Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - Battery

  • 7+ years experience in Operations Engineering or Manufacturing Process Development
  • Direct experience in manufacturing process design, review, and buy off
  • MS Chemistry Science (Battery); PhD preferred
  • Experience with tooling design in high volume manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of GD&T, Design of Experiments, and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Battery chemistry and process development experience
