At Apple, innovation is at the core of everything we do. The Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) role for iPhone is a crucial position within our Operations and Supply Chain team. As an MDE, you'll be responsible for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's worldwide supply base. This highly visible, hands-on role puts you at the intersection of Industrial Design, Product Design, and Manufacturing, working directly with Apple's worldwide suppliers.

You'll be accountable for providing end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for key design features, including manufacturing process development, capability assessment, and strategic R&D. Your expertise will be crucial in areas such as CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, or painting processes. You'll work with Global Supply Managers to establish supply chain requirements, provide leadership during production ramps, and drive engineering issues to resolution.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical manufacturing with at least 7 years of experience. You'll need to demonstrate excellent technical skills, leadership abilities, and strong communication capabilities. The position offers competitive compensation, including a base salary range of $178,400 to $268,500, plus additional benefits such as stock options, comprehensive healthcare, and educational support.

Responsibilities For Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - iPhone

  • Define best-in-class processes to meet Apple design and operational requirements
  • Develop and document processes including parameters, consumables and secondary operation requirements
  • Work with Global Supply Managers on supply chain requirements
  • Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and production ramp
  • Use data analysis, DOEs, SPC for process decisions
  • Identify, research, develop, and qualify equipment manufacturers and suppliers
  • Define part tolerance and specifications
  • Lead process development in areas like CNC machining, Surface Finishing, Glass Processing, Assembly, or Painting

Requirements For Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - iPhone

  • 7+ years of full time mechanical manufacturing experience
  • 25% domestic and international travel required
  • BS, MS or PhD in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering preferred
  • Demonstrate hands-on mechanical ability
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills
  • Experience with highly cosmetic parts
  • Self-starter ability
  • Quick learner with minimal information
