Apple's Softgoods Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated product design engineering lead to join their cross-functional team. The role involves conceiving, designing, validating, and launching new products in categories such as iPhone accessories, iPad accessories, Watch bands, and Audio. You'll work closely with various teams including Industrial Design, System PD, Hardware Engineering, Operations, Packaging, Reliability, and Software.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining CAD and creating drawings
- Collaborating with vendors to produce parts
- Performing engineering analyses using hand calculations, computer simulations, FEA, and dimensional tolerance analysis
- Assembling early prototypes
- Traveling to China to support engineering builds
- Solving problems on the assembly line
The Softgoods Engineering team at Apple is relatively new and focuses on working with textiles, leather, silicone, and soft polymers. Their mission is to use these materials to enable new product categories and enhance existing product lines. The team works in a beautiful customized lab where they design, engineer, and develop the best Softgoods products in the world.

Requirements For Product Design Engineer - Soft Goods
- At least 7 years of experience in production part design utilizing a variety of engineering materials
- Good engineering fundamentals (beam bending, free body diagrams, GD&T, etc…)
- 3D and 2D CAD skills (NX preferred)
- Solid verbal and written presentation skills (Keynote or Powerpoint)
- Experience using spreadsheets to analyze engineering data (FAI/CPK, tolerance analysis)
- Experience engaging with manufacturers
- Creative problem solving, with experience in failure analysis, root cause investigation, and DOE creation
- Able to travel domestic and internationally
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
