The IS&T Broadcast Services team at Apple is seeking a broadcast systems engineer to join their team and play a crucial role in engineering projects and supporting live broadcast events. This role involves working on various aspects of their broadcasting and live streaming platform, including production, encoding, transcoding, packing, delivery, playback, and analytics.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing, testing, and supporting scalable and reliable broadcasting and live streaming solutions using various technologies and frameworks.
- Collaborating with multiple internal and cross-functional teams to understand systems, workflows, and issues.
- Providing support for Production, Post-Production, Transmission activities, and related tasks.
- Quickly resolving issues and escalating to appropriate teams and individuals when needed.
- Updating documentation such as standard operating procedures for the team.
- Assisting with setup and configuration of broadcast control room production equipment and staff as needed.
- Being available and flexible to work within a 24x7 emergency response as needed.
- Limited travel may be required.
The ideal candidate should have experience in broadcast and streaming engineering and operations, familiarity with broadcasting and live streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, RTMP, etc.), and knowledge of video and audio codecs (H.264, HEVC, AAC, etc.). A Bachelor's degree with relevant field experience is acceptable.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Ability to support complex workflows for broadcasting events using multi-vendor technologies (AWS, Arista, etc.)
- Experience with streaming media security and DRM
- Good understanding of AWS media services
- Experience with automation tools and scripts
- Strong collaborative skills to work with multiple multi-functional teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
