Description For Senior Network Engineer

Apple's Global Network Services (GNS) team is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join their dynamic environment supporting one of the world's largest service provider-based backbones. This role is integral to connecting Apple's global businesses through their Global Backbone and Internet peering infrastructure. The position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge network technologies and be part of a team of top-tier professionals.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining and operating sophisticated backbone infrastructure that demands excellence in both technical expertise and operational efficiency. The role combines hands-on technical work with strategic thinking, requiring skills in network operations, design, and automation. You'll be working with state-of-the-art networking technologies, including TCP/IP, BGP, and MPLS, while contributing to the development of tools and automation solutions that enable large-scale deployments.

The position offers competitive compensation, including a base salary range of $136,300 to $248,700, plus additional benefits such as stock options, comprehensive healthcare, and educational support. Responsibilities For Senior Network Engineer

  • Day-to-day upkeep of the global infrastructure
  • Carry out regular network maintenances to migrate, upgrade and augment the infrastructure
  • Participate in network designs
  • Define and develop toolings and automations for large-scale deployment and operations
  • Collaborate with vendors on bug fixes and new features
  • Liaise with peers in Operations/Engineering and Architecture
  • Provide operational support for the Backbone
  • Participate in global on-call rotations
  • Attend early morning or late-night global collaboration meetings

Requirements For Senior Network Engineer

Python
Linux
  • At least 5 years of network operations and/or network design background
  • In-depth experience in TCP/IP (v4 and v6), IGP, BGP and MPLS technologies
  • Experience supporting large-scale peering/transit networks
  • Knowledge of complex traffic engineering and internet routing policies
  • Strong troubleshooting methodology
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MacOS, Linux, or other variations of UNIX
  • Strong software development skills, including Python programming and Ansible/Shell scripting
