Description For Engineering Lab Manager - Data Center Hardware

Apple's hardware engineering team is seeking a systems engineer to support infrastructure programs and manage engineering labs. This role combines hands-on technical work with lab management responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical challenges and operational leadership. The position involves working with data center hardware, running tests, and troubleshooting issues while managing multiple engineering labs and their infrastructure.

The role requires strong technical knowledge of Linux and MacOS systems, hardware debugging, and system administration. You'll be responsible for leading various lab projects, from network improvements to equipment upgrades, while working closely with multiple teams including hardware development, validation, data center, logistics, and network services.

Responsibilities For Engineering Lab Manager - Data Center Hardware

  • Installing and setting up data center hardware
  • Running tests and troubleshooting issues
  • Managing multiple engineering labs, infrastructure, and server/space allocation
  • Leading lab projects including network re-work, rack replacements, equipment upgrades & calibration
  • Establishing new lab policies and generating lab documentation
  • Supporting early product development life-cycle by running tests on pre-production hardware
  • Building, maintaining, and debugging both custom and OEM hardware

Requirements For Engineering Lab Manager - Data Center Hardware

Linux
  • BS Degree in engineering with 2~4 years relevant work experience
  • Validated understanding of provisioning and boot process for Linux and MacOS based systems (UEFI, DHCP, DNS, PXE/Netboot)
  • Hardware and OS level debugging experience, including use of SEL, kernel logs, system logs, debug commands, etc
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb (required for system installation)
  • Hands-on lab experience, preferably with lab environments at scale 100+ systems
