Principal Infrastructure Engineer

ARO is seeking a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to join their Specialist Data Centre Services team in Liverpool. This senior technical role involves driving innovation, design, implementation, and improvement of large-scale compute and storage platforms serving health sector clients. The position combines hands-on design, implementation, and 4th line support and problem resolution.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Designing Cloud Infrastructure: Capturing and developing client requirements, engaging internal and external assets, producing and presenting solution designs.
2. Implementation Lead: Working with the project team to ensure successful implementation and client workload migration.
3. Technical Escalation: Providing technical point of escalation to the operations team for complex incident and problem management.
4. Ensuring Security and Compliance: Delivered through proposed/implemented centralized controls.
5. Collaboration and Documentation: Working with the wider project and operations team to document centralized constructs, modules, and other artifacts.

The ideal candidate should have:

• Expert technical background in enterprise server, storage, hypervisor, and operating systems
• Logical and collaborative approach to problem-solving
• Exceptional communication and social skills
• Self-motivation with a drive for continuous improvement
• Proven ability to influence technical decisions in a fast-paced commercial environment
• Minimum of 8 years of data engineering experience
• 5+ years experience in a Senior Infrastructure support/engineer role
• Proficiency with Dell Power Edge Servers, PowerVault, PowerStore, PowerScale, and PowerMAX
• Knowledge of Windows Server OS, Linux and Unix OS, VMware ESXi, and Active Directory
• Understanding of cloud security best practices, IAM, encryption, and data protection
