Description For Airflow Reliability Engineer

Astronomer is seeking an Airflow Reliability Engineer to join their Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team. This role offers a unique opportunity to become an Apache Airflow expert while working with industry leaders. As part of a globally-distributed, venture-backed team, you'll be at the forefront of data orchestration and observability.

The position combines technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities, requiring both strong Python programming skills and excellent communication abilities. You'll work on maintaining and optimizing Airflow environments, solving complex technical challenges, and ensuring reliable service delivery for customers.

The role offers diverse learning opportunities across multiple disciplines, including data engineering, Kubernetes, and cloud engineering. You'll spend up to 25% of your time on innovative side projects, contributing to open-source Airflow, and developing internal systems.

Responsibilities For Airflow Reliability Engineer

  • Provide Apache Airflow expertise to customers
  • Ensure production environments are available, predictable, and reliable
  • Solve challenging Airflow problems for customers
  • Work on side projects contributing to Astronomer's success
  • Work directly with customers' data engineers and teams
  • Maintain 24x7 coverage through specified 6-hour pager period
  • Participate in paid on-call rotation for weekend coverage
  • Own the customer experience and provide white glove guidance

Requirements For Airflow Reliability Engineer

  • Proven proficiency in Python, with a minimum of two years of experience
  • At least one year of experience in Airflow administration and DAG creation
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to identify and own problems through the full lifecycle
