Description For Airflow Reliability Engineer (Python) - India

Astronomer is seeking an Airflow Reliability Engineer to join their Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team. This role offers a unique opportunity to become an Apache Airflow expert while working directly with customers on their managed Airflow service. The position combines deep technical expertise with customer-facing support, requiring both strong Python development skills and excellent communication abilities.

As part of the CRE team, you'll be handling sophisticated technical challenges, working with mission-critical systems, and helping organizations optimize their Airflow implementations. The role involves learning across multiple disciplines including data engineering, Kubernetes, and cloud engineering. You'll have the chance to contribute to the open-source Airflow community and shape the direction of the project through direct customer feedback.

The position offers flexibility with specific working hours (6:30 AM to 12:30 PM IST or 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM IST) and includes participation in on-call rotations. You'll be part of a globally-distributed team focused on empowering data teams to deliver mission-critical analytics and AI solutions. Responsibilities For Airflow Reliability Engineer (Python) - India

  • Provide Apache Airflow expertise to customers
  • Help customers optimize configuration and identify Airflow issues
  • Work on side projects contributing to Astronomer's success
  • Contribute to open-source Airflow repository
  • Work directly with customers' data engineers and technical teams
  • Maintain 24x7 coverage during specified 6-hour pager period
  • Participate in paid on-call rotation for weekend coverage
  • Own the customer experience and provide white glove guidance

Requirements For Airflow Reliability Engineer (Python) - India

  • Minimum 4 years of proven proficiency in Python
  • 5+ years of professional experience (any industry)
  • Experience with Kubernetes/Docker/Containers
  • Experience working with distributed systems with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with autonomy and independence
