Astronomer, the company behind Astro - the industry-leading unified DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow®, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with an infrastructure focus. This role is part of the R&D team's dataplane management group, which designs, builds, and owns the infrastructure running customer workloads. You'll be working on software that manages hundreds (eventually thousands) of kubernetes clusters across clouds, focusing on critical features like workload identity, multitenancy, disaster recovery, and private network access.
The position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, building solutions that enable data orchestration for some of the largest companies globally. The role requires expertise in languages like Golang or Java, strong understanding of distributed systems (particularly Kubernetes), and experience with large-scale SaaS infrastructure.
What makes this role unique is the scale and complexity of the infrastructure you'll be working with, managing multiple kubernetes clusters across different cloud providers. You'll be at the forefront of solving challenging problems in cloud infrastructure, working closely with core runtime and platform teams to deliver robust solutions.
The company values diverse experiences and unconventional career paths, offering a competitive compensation package including equity and comprehensive benefits. As a remote-first company, Astronomer provides the flexibility of remote work while maintaining a strong focus on building reliable, scalable infrastructure solutions that power modern data operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced engineers passionate about infrastructure, distributed systems, and building enterprise-scale solutions. You'll be joining a team that's laser-focused on delivering exceptional experiences in managing Apache Airflow at scale, making a direct impact on how organizations handle their critical data workflows.
