Astronomer is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with an infrastructure focus to join their R&D team. The company is the force behind Astro, a leading unified DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow®, serving over 700 enterprise customers. This role is part of the dataplane management team, which is responsible for designing and building the infrastructure that powers customer workloads.
The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on sophisticated cloud infrastructure, managing hundreds (and eventually thousands) of Kubernetes clusters across different cloud platforms. You'll be developing critical features for core infrastructure, including workload identity, multitenancy, disaster recovery, and private network access solutions. The role requires expertise in building and operating large-scale SaaS infrastructures, with a strong background in languages like Golang or Java.
What makes this role particularly compelling is the chance to work on technology that enables data orchestration for some of the world's largest companies. You'll be collaborating closely with core runtime, platform, and other product teams, contributing to the overall system's performance, reliability, and scalability. The position offers competitive compensation ($180,000 - $210,000) plus equity, and embraces diverse backgrounds and unconventional career paths.
The ideal candidate will bring experience with distributed systems (particularly Kubernetes), fleet management, and a security-minded approach to building managed platforms. Additional valuable skills include experience with multi-cloud Kubernetes management, service-oriented architectures, and building tools for streamlining development and deployment processes. This remote position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on a product that's at the forefront of the data orchestration industry.
