This unique position functions as a "hacker in residence" within the R&D team, focusing on experimenting with new ideas and building prototypes that will shape the future of Apache Airflow management at scale.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of innovation and practical application, with a particular emphasis on how Generative AI will transform the landscape for data professionals in the coming years. As part of the Office of the CTO, you'll have the freedom to experiment with various technologies and programming languages, working primarily with Go, Python, and React/TypeScript.

The ideal candidate brings significant software product development experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for challenging conventional wisdom. You'll be responsible for rapidly prototyping ideas, building LLM-based features, and contributing to Astronomer's thought leadership through articles and talks. The position offers a competitive salary range of $180,000 - $210,000, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

What makes this role particularly compelling is its focus on future-oriented development, especially in exploring how AI will evolve from a human-driven copilot to autonomous agents. You'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies while contributing to open-source projects and shaping the future of data orchestration tools.

The company values diverse experiences and unconventional career paths, making it an ideal environment for innovative thinkers who want to make a significant impact in the data engineering space. Working with a team that serves over 700 leading enterprises, you'll have the chance to influence how businesses interact with their data while being part of a remote-first company culture that emphasizes inclusion and diversity.
