Description For Mechanical Engineering Intern - Fall

Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab. They're looking for mechanical engineering interns for the fall term to work on an integrated engineering team building semiconductor fabrication equipment. The role offers exposure to interesting engineering problems and allows interns to take on significant ownership and mission-critical work.

The intern projects are highly interdisciplinary, spanning domains such as structures, optics, liquids, heat transfer, physics, and chemistry. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in at least one of these areas and strong mechanical and electrical fundamentals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing, prototyping, and building semiconductor fabrication equipment
  • System design (analysis, simulation, validating through lit review and test fixtures)
  • Mechanical design (CAD, FEA, etc.)
  • Working with other engineering teams to determine requirements
  • Manufacturing and building designs (sourcing parts, fabrication, producing drawings, etc.)
  • Characterization of systems (designing test setups and collecting data)

Required qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering
  • Ability to learn quickly and troubleshoot technical problems
  • Hands-on prototyping experience and ability to move through design cycles quickly
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly design and analysis
  • Strong foundation in mechanical engineering (Solidworks/Onshape, simulation, materials selection, etc.)

Desired qualifications:

  • Familiarity with semiconductor processing
  • Experience with Python scripting and data visualization

Atomic Semi was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. They offer a unique opportunity to work in a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers who own the stack from atoms to architecture. The company is well-funded, has world-class advisors, and is located in San Francisco, CA.
