Biffa Waste Services is seeking a Lead Maintenance Engineer to be the first point of contact for maintenance requirements and lead shift maintenance activities. The role involves managing internal & external preventative, reactive, and corrective maintenance work on plant equipment to improve machine reliability and availability. Working on a 4-on-4-off rolling rota with 12-hour shifts, the successful candidate will lead a maintenance team, implement improvement plans, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. This position requires extensive experience in industrial maintenance, leadership capabilities, and a strong focus on continuous improvement. Responsibilities For Lead Maintenance Engineer
- Lead the shift maintenance team
- Complete planned maintenance via Computer Maintenance Management System
- Improve operational effectiveness and project delivery
- Participate in continuous improvement projects
- Manage CMMS (Frontline) system
- Liaise with external contractors
- Support technical learning and mentoring
- Ensure compliance with H&S and environmental regulations
- Travel between sites as required
Requirements For Lead Maintenance Engineer
- Single skilled maintenance engineer (Mechanical/Electrical) qualifications
- Previous maintenance experience in heavy industrial or waste environment - 5 years
- Experience leading a multidiscipline team
- IOSH - Working Safely certification
- Permit to work, LOTO
- Problem solving and fault diagnosis skills
- Effective communication, Planning & organisation
- Knowledge of mechanical drive arrangements
- Valid driving licence
- Experience with forklift trucks, MEWP, confined space and working at height
- Familiar with continuous improvement (CI)
- Third party on site management experience
- Engineering best practice knowledge
