Description For Maintenance Engineer

Biffa Waste Services is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for their Carlisle location. This role involves working alongside an experienced team of technicians to provide diagnosis and carry out repairs to reduce plant downtime. The ideal candidate will be an experienced Mechanical/Multi-Skilled Engineer working in a process or production environment, with a willingness to learn new skills and adapt to a changing environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out plant upgrades and modifications to required standards
  • Reporting all work through a computerized maintenance management system
  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs
  • Being available for planned maintenance shutdown periods
  • Liaising with external contractors on specific repairs/maintenance
  • Implementing and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures

The role operates on a 3-shift rotation: Monday to Friday - 6-2pm/2-10pm and 10pm-6am, with paid overtime opportunities. Safety is the company's top priority, and the engineer will be expected to maintain strict H&S standards.

Requirements For Maintenance Engineer

  • Experienced Mechanical/Multi-Skilled Engineer working in a process or production environment
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to a changing environment
  • HNC/HND/C+G (or Industry equivalent) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is preferable but not essential
  • Good level of experience working to clearly defined KPIs and delivering continuous improvement
  • Knowledge and practical experience of large Conveyors, Chain Drives, Hydraulics, material Compactors, Shredders, Overhead cranes and Pneumatics is desirable
  • Experience of working within a time critical process environment
  • Good organisational and communication skills
