Description For Mechanical Shift Maintenance Engineer

Biffa Waste Services is seeking a Mechanical Shift Maintenance Engineer to join their team in Rotherham. This role operates on a four-on-four-off shift pattern, including days and nights, with overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular rate. The position focuses on mechanical maintenance inspections and routine repairs across all site areas, ensuring maximum reliability and safety while minimizing downtime on critical assets. Working as part of a small team, the role requires flexibility and willingness to perform various tasks. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical engineering skills, waste processing knowledge, and the ability to work independently while contributing to team success. Responsibilities For Mechanical Shift Maintenance Engineer

  • Diagnosis of running faults and ensuring effective repairs and improvements
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance practices
  • Carrying out plant upgrades and modifications to required standards
  • Reporting through computerised maintenance management system
  • Development and implementation of planned preventative maintenance
  • Anticipate machine failures and make changes to prevent reoccurrence
  • Ensuring SHEQ standards are maintained
  • Drive culture/mindset that builds employee motivation
  • Assist in identifying annual lifecycle requirements and capital applications

Requirements For Mechanical Shift Maintenance Engineer

Linux
  • Minimum 5 GCSE or equivalent with Mathematics and Physics mandatory
  • Recognised Apprenticeship, Multi Skilled Engineer with relevant qualifications ONC/NVQ 3 discipline level (MECH Bias)
  • Waste Processing equipment knowledge
  • IT literate – comfortable using business software and systems
  • Full UK car driving licence and live within a 20-mile radius of site
  • Experience of FMCG type environment
  • Fit & active – role involves planned & reactive maintenance on conveyors, magnet belts, eddy current separators
