Description For Senior Protocol Engineer

Caldera is seeking a Senior Protocol Engineer to help build the future of blockchain scalability. This role is ideal for an engineer passionate about tackling blockchain scalability problems or looking to enter the blockchain engineering space. The successful candidate will work on architecting the blockchain node, making improvements to the virtual machine running Ethereum smart contract code, evaluating database backends and networking libraries, and writing efficient EVM smart contracts in Solidity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Architecting the blockchain node that forms the backbone of Caldera's software offering
  • Working on cutting-edge blockchain scaling solutions and new layer two technologies
  • Making improvements or extensions to the virtual machine that runs Ethereum smart contract code
  • Evaluating and selecting appropriate tools for the tech stack
  • Writing efficient and secure EVM smart contracts in Solidity

The ideal candidate should have:

  • 4+ years of engineering experience
  • Deep knowledge of Go, Rust, or similar languages
  • Experience building Ethereum "dapps" with Solidity or Yul
  • Experience with distributed or embedded systems
  • Strong skills in writing fast, well-optimized, well-tested, clean code
  • Confidence in performance optimization and identifying bottlenecks and scalability concerns

Bonus qualifications include familiarity with blockchain internals, Ethereum scaling solutions, consensus algorithms, cryptography primitives, and significant open-source contributions.
