Calendly is seeking a Principal Engineer for their Platform Services team to play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining foundational services that support engineering teams and drive product success. This role involves leveraging deep technical expertise and leadership skills to influence platform architecture, guide engineering practices, and ensure resiliency, scalability, and performance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architectural Design: Shaping technical strategy and North Star Architecture, guiding design and implementation across the engineering organization.
- Technical Leadership: Providing mentorship, guidance, and decision-making to enable engineering teams to deliver optimal solutions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Planning & Execution: Contributing hands-on to critical "Big Rock" initiatives, delivering high-quality output and participating in planning processes.
- Vision & Strategy: Developing and articulating the vision for core technical functions, defining their strategic value, and overseeing their evolution.
Requirements:
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and cloud computing
- Experience driving zero-to-one development of key technical capabilities
- Expertise in building and maintaining high-traffic, high-availability platforms
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven leadership capabilities with experience mentoring engineering teams
- Adaptability to new technologies and changing requirements
- Availability for on-call rotation
