Description For Data Engineer

The CDC Foundation, a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join their Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI). This role offers a competitive salary range of $103,500-$143,500 and allows for fully remote work within the United States.

The position involves working with the Maine CDC's Informatics team in the Division of Disease Surveillance, where you'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining critical data infrastructure for public health organizations. This is a grant-funded opportunity running until June 30, 2025, offering a chance to make a significant impact on public health data systems.

As a Data Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of developing architecture for data generation, storage, processing, and analysis. You'll work closely with various stakeholders to implement data governance, policies, and procedures, particularly focusing on setting up a data lake/warehouse for Infectious Disease Epidemiology Surveillance Systems.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of data engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Python, Java, SQL, and AWS. You'll need expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and experience with both relational and NoSQL databases. The role requires someone who can balance technical excellence with strong communication skills, as you'll be collaborating with teams across the organization.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to public health initiatives while working with modern data technologies. You'll be part of an organization that has raised over $1.9 billion and launched more than 1,300 programs impacting various health threats, from chronic diseases to emergency responses like COVID-19 and Ebola.

The role combines technical challenges with meaningful impact, offering the flexibility of remote work while contributing to national public health initiatives. If you're passionate about using data engineering to improve public health systems and want to work with a respected organization at the forefront of health protection, this position offers an excellent opportunity to make a difference.
