Description For DevOps Engineer

The CDC Foundation is seeking a DevOps Engineer to play a crucial role in advancing their mission by providing engineering and technical guidance for critical applications in public health. This role is aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI) and will be assigned to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The DevOps Engineer will drive improvements in security, agility, responsiveness, and efficiency of software delivery processes through automation and optimization. Key responsibilities include implementing DevOps pipelines, working across product lines, automating software deployment, developing in cloud and hybrid-cloud environments, enhancing observability practices, and acting as a DevOps Subject Matter Expert. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, 5+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or SRE, and expertise in various DevOps tools and cloud technologies. This is a remote, grant-funded position ending June 30, 2025, with a salary range of $103,500-$143,500 per year, plus benefits.

Responsibilities For DevOps Engineer

  • Implement new and ongoing DevOps and automation pipelines
  • Enhance efficiency, reliability and security of software, data products, deployment, and delivery processes
  • Bridge development and IT Operations teams in automating software deployment
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee deployments in cloud (Azure Cloud) and hybrid-cloud environments
  • Enhance observability practices and build tools for better monitoring, logging, and alerting
  • Drive adoption of containers, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud automation
  • Facilitate training sessions on using and managing pipelines
  • Perform automation and monitoring for Integration Engines processing HL7 messages
  • Deploy, administer, monitor and support microservices on Azure
  • Develop deployment and governance strategy for DPH-wide API tier
  • Plan and develop strategy for incorporating containers and container orchestration frameworks
  • Prototype and provide guidance on Data Ops functions for automation
  • Develop success metrics for DevOps infrastructure
  • Participate in incident response activities and lead postmortem discussions
  • Conduct technology evaluations and provide architectural guidance
  • Aid in load and performance testing efforts

Requirements For DevOps Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working as a DevOps Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)
  • Experience in software delivery in a production setting
  • In-depth knowledge of DevOps tools and system architectures
  • Experience in usage of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab
  • Hands on experience working in cloud-based environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Solid understanding of 'Infrastructure as Code' principles
  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Python, bash, PowerShell)
  • Proficient in Linux for administration and troubleshooting tasks
  • Experience with Windows Server environments
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Splunk
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies, software design patterns, and best practices
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and distributed teams
