We are looking to add a Senior Materials Engineer I to our growing team.
In this position, you will develop into a key member of our product development team, assisting with the materials selection, qualification, failure root-cause analysis, standardization, vendor evaluations, and performance verification efforts. This position will require regular presentation of work and findings to peers, mentors, and Cesium leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with design and manufacturing engineering teams
- Characterizing and defining operating parameters for different material types
- Executing test and qualification plans
- Developing solder and flux processes for flight
- Performing materials and process validation testing
- Reviewing electrical component bill of materials
- Performing mechanical testing of adhesives
- Developing shop aid and tools using 3D printing
- Assisting in troubleshooting and resolving production issues
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 4 years of relevant prior experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, CAD software, and engineering principles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred experience:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Science or a relevant field
- Experience with PCBA/electronics assemblies, SMT methods, and electronic components
- Familiarity with reliability analyses for space mission hardware
- Knowledge of shielding electronics against space radiation effects
- Experience with high-frequency RF materials technologies
