Description For Hardware Engineer

The High-End Routing hardware team at Cisco develops groundbreaking routers deployed in Service Providers and Data Centers worldwide. As a Hardware Engineer, you'll design hardware for the Cisco 8000 series routers, focusing on delivering the best quality and power efficiency using cutting-edge serdes technology at the highest bit rates possible. Your responsibilities will span from hardware definition to design, and from qualification to final product release.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using Cadence/Allegro to develop and collect schematics
  • Guiding layout and routing phase of the design
  • Writing hardware specs, developing test plans, and bringing up hardware with ASIC teams
  • Debugging issues in the lab using analyzers and scopes

You'll work directly with other engineers, collaborating with architects, developers, and vendors throughout the product development life cycle. This role requires strong technical skills, analytical abilities, and the capability to identify and solve hardware issues during design and testing phases.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in system level development
  • Experience with Ethernet, high-speed servers (>10G) interfaces, high-speed design, and/or signal integrity
  • Board design knowledge, including familiarity with design tools like Cadence Concept and/or Allegro
  • Experience with lab bring-up and design validation of products
  • Prior experience shipping products
  • Knowledge of X86 architecture and control interfaces (PCIe, MDIO, SPI, I2C)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate across different subject areas (software, mechanical, signal integrity)
