Description For Hardware Engineer (Ent Switching) - Intern - Shanghai - Sourcing

Cisco is seeking a Hardware Engineer intern for their Enterprise Switching team in Shanghai, China. The intern will be part of the Catalyst 9000 switches development team, focusing on core switching platforms. Responsibilities include system and board level specification, schematic capture, FPGA design, ASIC/System level bring up and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate should be familiar with common hardware technologies, have experience with complex high-speed board design, and possess strong communication skills. This internship offers an opportunity to work on next-generation high-end switch families and collaborate with multiple teams to resolve design issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and design next-generation high-end switch families
  • Work on system and board level specifications
  • Perform schematic capture and FPGA design
  • Assist in ASIC/System level bring up and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with multiple teams including ASIC, DFT, Signal Integrity, Software, Diagnostics, and Manufacturing

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with common hardware technologies (power, clock, memory, CPU, FPGA, and various interfaces)
  • Experience with complex high-speed board design and board bring-up
  • Knowledge of schematic, PCB, and Verilog HDL/VHDL design
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Tcl, etc.) is a plus
  • Knowledge of Ethernet protocols is beneficial
  • Strong self-motivation, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in both English and Chinese (oral and written)

Educational Background:

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Communication, Automation, or a relevant major
