Description For Network Support Engineer - Security (Firewall)

As a Network Support Engineer - Security (Firewall) at Cisco, you'll serve as a trusted technical authority for global Cisco customers and partners. You'll collaborate with customers and cross-technology teams to resolve complex technical issues, contribute to knowledge bases, and train junior engineers. The role involves engaging with the latest networking security technologies, recreating customer issues in Cisco labs, and assisting other TCEs and Global Delivery Partners.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Recognizing and submitting bugs, providing escalation support, and building reusable lab setups
  • Producing and sharing intellectual capital, including documentation and training, for global use
  • Mentoring and developing others, leveraging software skills to configure, deploy, and troubleshoot Cisco products
  • Solving complex problems with innovative troubleshooting and experimentation
  • Acting as a technical expert, applying industry standards and partnering with serviceability teams

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of related experience involving customer support in Security technologies
  • CCNP level knowledge or equivalent (Certification not required)
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP stack, Routing/Switching, SSL/TLS, common Application Layer protocols
  • Capture analysis skills (Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Good knowledge of Linux / UNIX command line tools / environment
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in network security technologies: Cybersecurity, Firewall, VPN, IPS
  • Advanced Linux & Windows skills
  • Knowledge of cloud providers: Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, etc.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and DevOps
  • Scripting languages (Python, Golang, etc.)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco security products
  • Relevant industry certifications
  • Presentation and training skills
  • Technical documentation writing skills
