Description For Optics Engineer (Co-Op) United States

Cisco is seeking an Optics Engineering Co-op to work on their elite optical communication products. The role involves performing tasks related to design verification testing (DVT) of coherent transceivers, developing calibration and test procedures, and creating methods, scripts, and software for various control loops in transmitter/receiver and performance monitoring.

The co-op will work with technologies involving the transmission of light over optical fiber for higher capacity, lower power consumption, smaller size, and lower cost. They will be involved in developing and optimizing optical transceivers and other components crucial for network connectivity, ensuring high-speed data transmission across servers, switches, and routers in various network environments like data centers and campus networks.

This position is essential for supporting the increasing demands of hybrid work environments and ensuring reliable, high-capacity network connections. The co-op will be challenged according to their current level of experience and capability, working in a fast-paced environment known for developing ground-breaking products in short time intervals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting design verification testing (DVT) of coherent transceivers
  • Helping develop calibration and test procedures
  • Creating methods, scripts, and software for control loops and performance monitoring
  • Working with hardware and software in lab environments

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Previous internship experience (preferred)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in physics, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Python skills and understanding of basic optics
  • Ability to be onsite in Maynard, MA five days a week
