Description For Procurement Engineer

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is at the forefront of commercial fusion energy development, collaborating with MIT to create groundbreaking high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. As a Procurement Engineer at CFS, you'll play a crucial role in the Supplier Integration team, driving the execution of source selection projects and integrating suppliers into the ARC project from early product design stages. You'll be responsible for selecting the best sources within budget, negotiating contracts, and overseeing supplier activities from order to delivery. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, strategic sourcing skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and manufacturing teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving source selection projects and adhering to commodity strategies
  • Working with engineering teams to understand equipment specifications
  • Identifying and evaluating potential suppliers
  • Negotiating short and long-term agreements
  • Monitoring supplier performance and supporting improvement initiatives
  • Creating purchase orders and conducting supplier visits as needed

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in manufacturing, construction, supply chain, or engineering
  • Experience in an engineering or technical role with the ability to interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Understanding of strategic sourcing skills and tools
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate commercial terms with suppliers
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Customer service mindset and entrepreneurial spirit

Responsibilities For Procurement Engineer

  • Drive the execution of source selection projects, coordinating cross-functionally and adhering to commodity strategies
  • Work with the engineering team to understand the specifications of equipment, parts or services to purchase
  • Identify potential suppliers, seek their inputs on the specifications and participate in the evaluation of supplier options
  • Gather and interpret non-technical requirements, draft and review statements of work
  • Drive the source selection process from end to end
  • Negotiate short and long-term agreements with suppliers
  • Monitor suppliers throughout the execution of the contracts
  • Support cost savings initiatives and lead time improvement projects
  • Create purchase orders up to authorized limits
  • Visit suppliers as necessary to conduct business reviews and resolve issues
  • Develop and track reporting against objectives and results

Requirements For Procurement Engineer

  • 3+ years' related work experience in manufacturing, construction, supply chain, engineering or other relevant environment
  • Experience in an engineering or technical role
