Description For Senior Safety Engineer

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to join their Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) team. This role will be the fusion power plant (SPARC) safety expert, ensuring safe construction, assembly, commissioning, and operation of novel systems. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Safety or a related technical field with 8+ years of experience, or 10+ years of experience in a high-risk industry. Key responsibilities include conducting project walks, reviewing high-hazard work, leading incident investigations, and educating stakeholders on various safety concepts. The role requires expertise in power plant activities, strong facilitation skills, and the ability to work in an industrial environment. CFS is developing unique systems like a Cryogenic System and Radio Frequency Heating System for their fusion reactor. Responsibilities For Senior Safety Engineer

  • Demonstrate expertise with safety programs, procedures, PPE, and response actions for power plant activities
  • Conduct frequent project walks focused on safe work practices
  • Participate in project planning to address hazards from multiple work crews (SIMOPS)
  • Review high hazard work prior to execution
  • Lead and document incident investigations
  • Educate and align SPARC Project Stakeholders on various safety concepts
  • Conduct or facilitate safety training sessions

Requirements For Senior Safety Engineer

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related technical field with 8+ years of experience, or 10+ years of experience in high-risk industry
  • Significant experience in technical environments with electro-mechanical systems, power plants, advanced software and utility equipment concepts
  • Strong facilitation skills and ability to work from a position of credible influence
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Perform activities such as standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, and entry to limited access spaces in an industrial plant
