Description For Senior Salt Operations Engineer

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is at the forefront of commercial fusion energy development. Collaborating with MIT, CFS leverages decades of research and groundbreaking high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology to create compact, cost-effective fusion power plants. Their mission is to rapidly deploy these plants to meet global decarbonization goals.

The ARC project aims to be the first machine to produce electricity from fusion energy, marking the beginning of a new industry. Building on SPARC's HTS magnets and tokamak systems, ARC introduces new elements like the Blanket System, which uses FLiBe to breed tritium and capture heat.

As a Senior Salt Operations Engineer, you'll lead operations of salt test loops, develop safety-focused workflows, and ensure operability throughout the design and engineering process. You'll train operators, act as a technical expert on salt handling, and work closely with various CFS teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading salt test loop operations from conception to decommissioning
  • Developing safety-oriented workflows and conducting hazard assessments
  • Ensuring operability in design and engineering processes
  • Developing data recording and communication workflows
  • Training operators on best practices and SOPs
  • Collaborating with Safety, R&D, and ARC Design teams

The ideal candidate will have:

  • BS in Chemical, Mechanical, or Nuclear Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years experience with novel, hazardous, high-temperature test articles
  • Experience with molten salt systems and developing operating procedures
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams

CFS values diversity and is an equal opportunity employer, considering all qualified applicants without discrimination.

Join CFS to contribute to the development of limitless, clean fusion power and combat climate change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
