Coupang, a leading South Korean e-commerce company, is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer specializing in Cloud Infrastructure to join their team in Seattle. The position focuses on developing and maintaining cloud platform infrastructure at scale, requiring expertise in DevOps tools, cloud services, and distributed systems.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for architecting and implementing cloud solutions that can scale 10X better in terms of reliability, availability, performance, and efficiency. You'll work with a global team to enhance cloud infrastructure, focusing on achieving 99.999% availability while maintaining system quality and productivity.
Key technical requirements include extensive experience with Cloud DevOps tools (CI/CD, IaaC, Terraform), strong knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and Linux, and proven expertise in public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP). The role demands 15+ years of hands-on experience in cloud platform engineering, with specific emphasis on building highly available and scalable distributed systems.

Responsibilities For Staff Backend Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure
- Focus on Cloud Platform Infrastructure, Services and processes
- Enhance Cloud infrastructure reliability & system efficiencies at 10X scale
- Design and architect new systems leveraging cloud infrastructure
- Provide system architecture artifacts and guidance on cloud infrastructure choices
- Develop self-service code and end-to-end back cloud deployment automation
- Provide roadmap for scalable growth to achieve 99.999% availability
- Serve as Cloud Engineering lead for infrastructure Architecture and Design
- Solve complex technical problems in Public and Private Cloud environments
- Analyze complex distributed production deployments
- Identify opportunities for disruptive improvements in cloud infrastructure
- Exert technical influence over multiple teams
Requirements For Staff Backend Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 15+ Years of strong hands-on experience in cloud platform engineering
- 8+ years of hands-on experience on system engineering, Cloud DevOps and Cloud SRE
- 5+ years of hands-on experience leading system design, architecture leveraging AWS or Azure services
- 7+ years of demonstrable hands-on experience building and operating infrastructure as code (IaC)
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in building high-performance, highly-available and scalable distributed systems
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in building and managing high-performance Hybrid Cloud environments
- Excellent cross-group collaboration, outstanding verbal and written communication
