Staff Platform Engineer - Core Compute

We're seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to transform how we build, operate, and run our platform at Deliveroo. This role involves guiding both strategy and implementation of Platform Engineering across our group, focusing on cloud infrastructure, compute clusters, observability tooling, and data stores. As Deliveroo experiences rapid growth, our infrastructure is crucial to supporting this expansion. Ensuring a secure, stable, highly available, and performant cloud environment is a key priority for this position.

As a Staff Platform Engineer, you'll contribute to group-level goals and metrics, occasionally leading work that benefits other teams. You'll report to managers and group leads to deliver results. Your responsibilities include:

Technical Execution:

• Be an expert in at least one relevant technical area
• Forecast and manage project timelines and risks
• Define technical solutions for important business problems

Collaboration & Leadership:

• Align non-adjacent teams to resolve complex challenges
• Lead technical direction for platform teams
• Influence strategic direction and build team relationships
• Lead engineering interviews and contribute to recruiting

Requirements (not all are mandatory):

• Pride in well-designed, well-tested solutions
• Ability to lead direction in platform areas (e.g., Containers, Kafka, Networking)
• Extensive experience with infrastructure tooling, ideally Terraform
• Strong software engineering background, preferably with Go and/or Python
• Leadership skills, including coaching and team-building
• Project management from inception to delivery
• System design experience
• Extensive AWS cloud computing experience
• Experience with datastores like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis
• Close working relationships with customer engineering groups
