Staff Software Engineer - Frontend

Descript is seeking a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Frontend development to join their innovative team. As a key player in building the next generation platform for easy and fast creation of audio and video content powered by cutting-edge AI, you'll tackle unique challenges and solve complex problems.

The role involves refining and expanding Descript's web-based, collaborative audio and video editing tool. You'll work on a wide range of projects, from intricate editing interactions to critical features of a modern cloud product, as well as systems powering real-time collaboration and media playback. The position also includes working on cutting-edge AI integrations.

Descript's tech stack includes TypeScript, React/Redux, and Node.js, leveraging WebAssembly, WebCodecs, WebGL, and WebAudio for real-time rendering and compositing. As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality user experiences. You'll also develop and refine front-end architecture, work with AI researchers on innovative features, and push the web browser to its limits with high-performance code.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of professional software development experience, strong proficiency in frontend technologies (especially TypeScript/JavaScript/React), and a track record of delivering high-quality, maintainable features. You should be self-motivated, resourceful, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
