Description For Lead Data Engineer

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology (DEEP&T) is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join their Product & Data Engineering team. This role is crucial in developing and maintaining Identity and Device Data products that serve as the source of truth for customer identifiers and devices across Disney's streaming platforms including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

The position involves building scalable, fault-tolerant data processing pipelines and backend systems to ensure reliable delivery of both real-time and batch data. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with big data technologies, distributed systems, and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities For Lead Data Engineer

  • Build and maintain product-driven initiatives for Identity and Device data products
  • Enhance/improve codebase for extensibility and maintainability
  • Enhance/redesign existing data models
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and other stakeholders
  • Participate in on-call support
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Participate in code reviews and problem-solving

Requirements For Lead Data Engineer

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 7+ years of big data engineering experience
  • Experience with distributed systems like Hadoop or Databricks
  • Strong Python, Scala and SQL skills
  • Experience with MPP or cloud database technology
  • Deep understanding of Data Modeling techniques
  • Operational experience in multi-system production environment
  • Experience with data integration tools and CI/CD
  • Experience with AWS S3
