Description For Lead Software Engineer

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join their Data Capture team within the Data organization. This role is crucial in establishing and maintaining foundational platform frameworks and pipelines that enable engineering and analytical teams to leverage data for key business decisions.

The position involves working with cutting-edge technologies to support Disney's world-class streaming platforms including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for architecting and implementing data solutions that scale across one of the largest streaming services globally.

The role combines technical leadership with hands-on development, requiring expertise in Scala, Python, and distributed systems. You'll work with technologies like Spark, Databricks, Delta Lake, and Snowflake while leading initiatives to improve data quality, observability, and platform reliability.

Key responsibilities include maintaining data pipelines, implementing Lakehouse architecture, developing shared libraries, and ensuring high operational efficiency. You'll also provide technical mentorship and collaborate with product managers and architects to drive platform success.

Requirements For Lead Software Engineer

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience developing backend applications
  • 2+ years of data engineering experience developing large data pipelines
  • Strong algorithmic problem-solving expertise
  • Strong fundamental Scala and Python programming skills
  • Basic understanding of AWS or other cloud provider resources (S3)
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Hands-on production environment experience with distributed processing systems such as Spark
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
